Life Lessons… From The Balance King

“Find something to make a difference and focus on it.”

Dear leader,

Alvin Kamara is the “Balance King”.

I was ritually watching the NFL’s Sunday Night Football: it was the New Orleans Saints v the Dallas Cowboys.

The Saints have Alvin Kamara, an exceptional athlete that plays Running Back. AK is renowned for his incredible balance and powerful running. For such a small back he has such powerful legs.

These outstanding attributes were developed into outstanding abilities: and it has become his specialty!

An intermission focused on an interview with him, and it showed him training.  He was balancing on a bubble-ball catching things tossed at him by his trainer. He stood on it; kneeled on it; did squats on it: on both legs; then on one leg at a time. Catching from the front, then from the sides. An incredible demonstration of a personally tailored regime that focused on what he specifically wanted to develop.

Now, he might well have been born with a natural ability to balance better than the average toddler, and he might well have had the benefit of some pretty useful DNA that contributed to his Phidian physicality, but regardless, he chose to develop these into a honed, specific skill.

Note to Self!

Find something special to make a difference and work on it.

Anything can be developed and strengthened.

It just takes focus, effort and commitment.

Then design a dedicated regime and routine to practice what I need to improve. Strengthen something that I am weak at, develop a new skill to add to my arsenal, or at least, keep refining what I am good at so that I keep you edge.
