“Be determined to grow despite the mess that surrounds you.”
Dear Leader,
Sometimes you can grow in the worst mess!
Now, I confess that this is not a pretty scene: but I once put a bag load of dog-mess in the bowl of an old discarded toilet and grew a tree!
My wife’s Rotty, “Rachel”, would leave dumps all over the garden, and the “responsible agent”, let us say, was not always reliable in regularly cleaning up after.
Thus, come the weekend and the weekly mow, I would, too often, discover considerable deposits within the grass.
One week, I scooped all the poop into a bucket, and by the end, was faced with a substantial amount of feculence. I was unsure as to how to discard such a load of inglorious bowel-filler, so I just tipped the lot into the idle toilet-bowl lounging in a neglected
corner at the back of the garden.
It was a good few weeks till I remembered the discarded droppings, and when I, somewhat cautiously, went to deal with it, low! Smack in the middle of the privy-pot of dog-doings there grew, in perfect bliss and sweet contentment, tree saplings!
They are now proper trees and still grow there today!
Every time I see these trees I am reminded that no matter how bad it gets, how much mess is about me, how much dung I have to deal with, I can survive; I can still grow.
Note to Self!
I heard some advice once on moving from a comfortable familiar environment to a difficult unknown one: “be determined to succeed in the soil in which you are planted.”
Success is so often a matter of perspective more than place, and our attitude dictates the determination of our actions more than the atmosphere.
I have learned some of my best life-lessons from the worst situations, and they have fueled my growth. If I have the determination to survive and the attitude to learn, I can grow, no matter how much mess surrounds me.
