“Sometimes need overrides rules!”
Dear leader,
After a funeral, we met at the sister-in-law’s house. It was late evening about, sometime after 10, and it had been a very long, very hot, day.
I was taking a cooling stroll around her small garden, perusing the plants when I noticed that her tomatoes plants were looking particularly wilted.
So, being the green-fingered type, I grab the hose and start watering the pots.
After a while, I am joined by a nephew and he, with a certain air of sagacity, claims that watering at night is not good for plants. This being something his grandmother had once told him, and he goes on to explain, with elicit detail, that there are several “bad times” to water plants.
Once his horticultural wisdom had run dry, I say to him; “…do you know when it is a really good time to water plants?” He looks at me in expectation and, as I point to the gagging tomatoes in their parched pots, I reveal: “When they look like that!”
Note to Self!
Too many times have I experienced the failure of some to show simple expressions of humanity just because of bureaucracy, process, and procedure!
It is ironic that people make procedures that hinder the help of others, and inexcusable that they forget that people are far more important than those procedures.
Sometimes a need overrides the rules.
